We got up fairly early and had a nice breakfast in front of the Airbnb at the small table sitting under an awning made of vines.

After breakfast we got ready and headed to Gordes which is an absolutely beautiful town not far from where we stayed. It’s built on a rock and was essentially abandoned in the mid 20th century after some hard time. But now it is a huge tourist destination because it was named most beautiful town in France. Totally worth it if you’re in the area.

The rest of the day we spent at the pool and did barbecue with some delicious meat skewers we got at the Super U market

Go to the Abbaye Notre Dame de Senanque. It’s an old monestary with monks who take care of the grounds. It has been built out over several hundred years and now it’s a beautiful area with a church and fields of lavender. You definitely need a car to get there although we saw quite a few cyclists going way down into the valley.

We drove between some old medieval villages and visited their castles. It’s amazing how each one has its special charm.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France

On sundays there is a big market in L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue. You can find antiques, food, gifts, and all of the shops are open. Definitely a must see but parking space is limited so go early!

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, France

In Fontaine-de-Vaucluse there are is a nice small river which runs through the town and there are some small shops and restaurants where you can walk around and enjoy during the day. There’s also a walk up to the Fontaine where you can look down into a deep natural pool created in the side of a rock wall. Just be careful getting too close as the rocks are slippery

Before taking the train, spend some time in Avignon visiting the main square downtown and the Palais de Pap. It’s a beautiful town with some really great restaurants so be sure to enjoy lunch before leaving

Provence is a beautiful region where you can get lost in fields of lavender and explore ancient villages hanging on cliffs. The food is delicious, the wine is amazing, and life is relaxed. This trip we went to Paris first to visit family. Getting around by train is really easy!
